How does caliper gauges work:

Internal caliper gauge are used to accurately measure internal dimensions by using spring-loaded measuring points that expand to contact the inside walls of the bore or hole. A dial indicator or digital display will then show the precise measurement which can be up to 1 micron resolution! Common measuring examples include the inside diameter of holes, bores, cylinders, and groove diameter of workpieces.
